I love to play poker! Once in a while I’ll even get lucky too. I’ve played at all the casinos in Las Vegas I’ve even played at some in California a time or two. One thing I’ve never played is a home game. I always opted for the casino because there is freedom to play more games and or tournaments. This week I found a home game on a site called meet up. I was on there searching for a group that I could shoot the junk with over what I really like, Adsense. I typed in poker just to see what was there, I didn’t expect much, I mean living in Las Vegas, poker at any level is available at just about any casino in town.

Anyway, I found a couple of pages offering a home game, these pages on meetup also tell a lot about the game and the players. There were actually 3 home game pages that I found. One was near my home and I thought ok, I could maybe play this one. Two were a little further away but still close enough to give it a try if I decided to. I looked at the stats of the one near my house, it looked like a new group, they only had a couple of meet ups and only 4 attended one and 6 attended the next. Not much of a game so I kept looking not really serious about showing up.

I put the thought on hold for a while I did some other work. Well it turned into days and then one day I got an email saying there was a game coming up. Of course the game had to be 20 miles away. The money wasn’t going to be great for winning but it wasn’t a big investment either. It was only a $10 dollar buy in with no re-buys or add ons. I figured I would get some experience playing tournament style which I needed and am getting better at all the time. I love cash games and always thought I liked them better than tournament style. I just could wrap my head around the popularity of tournament poker. Every time I would be playing in a cash game and see the mass exodus to the tournament tables I would wonder why they waste their time. After playing a few and getting more serious about tournament play, I can see the appeal now. It’s a whole new way of playing poker and it takes all the concentration and luck you can muster because there is no coming back from a mistake.

Anyway I began this tournament with good cards and they just kept coming. Normally when I’m playing start the game with great cards and winning. I know that my luck can not keep up for the whole tournament and they have to turn, it seems like that anyway. Also if I get good cards in the beginning it seem to make me a little cocky and over confident. Well this time they just kept coming, I do have to say that I stole quite a few pots too. In the end, I was up and down and almost out at one point but I was able to fight back and win the tournament to pick up the top prize. What great feeling it is to win a tournament even if the pot is only $125 and even if the players are not real experienced. I love poker and I’m sure I always will, it’s something that just keeps going and going and I’ll probably keep doing to these home games, I like the atmosphere and I get to practice for a small amount of money.

Matt Cutts is the top dog in the Google search spam department. Most of this presentation is pretty much old hat for those of us who do SEO by being relevant. For those of you either new to SEO or are wondering why all those links you get are not doing the job. Matt explains what it takes to do search engine optimization the right way. It’s about an hour long but well worth the time to watch. I messaged a seo acquaintance on Yahoo to ask whether he has seen this and as I was telling him about it I came up with an idea. I thought this would be perfect to have potential clients watch. It explains everything you need to know about SEO in a one hour video.

I don’t know about you but I haven’t used a Yellow Pages offline for, well (thinking) years. I actually haven’t even seen one for ( more thinking) I can’t remember the last time I’ve even seen a yellow pages book. I have internet on my phone like most people do and I’m constantly on my computer so I’m always around some electrical device to search for a location or use maps. I’m not alone either, it’s getting more and more common for business to be searched for using a phone. Soon it you’re not listed locally online you could face losing some business. If you haven’t claimed your online listing or you don’t know what I’m talking about. Get in touch with me and we’ll get you where folks can find you.

Well of course you are. It’s what everyone looks for in a company; someone you can count on. My clients have access to me almost 24/7 if I’m not on the computer I’m available by phone. I don’t go home on the weekends because I work from home. My business is my life it’s what I do, so if you as my client have any issues needing attention, I’m available.

There’s no shortage of schemers telling half truths and whole lies while claiming they can get your site ranked in all the big name search engines. With so many to wade through it’s hard to know which to choose. So how do you choose if you don’t know the first thing about SEO? Well allow me to clear the air for you by telling you a story about a trustworthy SEO specialist and his satisfied customer.

One thing you should take into account when promoting a website is the fact that, once you do get ranked in the search engines your position will rise and fall for a time. This happens frequently with newly indexed websites and there’s nothing you can do about it. It’s really hard on a person the first time this happens leaving you wondering what you did wrong. Most of the time you did nothing wrong as long as you or your webmaster and seo followed the TOS (terms of service) the search engine publish. You’ll see a great rank for a while and then “blam” it’s gone, all you can do is just keep doing what your doing, building links and adding content. That’s what is happening to the taxi site I’m building and the fact that I haven’t added any new content for a couple of weeks doesn’t help. So I’m writing this post including a link with the anchor text of Las Vegas Taxi in hopes that it will help a little bit and get me back to where I can at least see it.

The new site makes its Google début! Las Vegas Taxi

I went to check my ranking this morning and low-and-behold my site is already showing up. Had I not intervened it would have taken much longer to show up in the listings and I wanted to experiment with some new linking strategies I’ve been working to refine. It appears I’m ranked 196 with 7 new visitors and 0 comments as of today. I’d say that’s not a bad start for a fledgling site. I’m thinking of a few new keywords that will bring people to my site, but the gears are already turning and I have some great ideas for new posts.

Keep checking in on me for the latest information.

Today I submitted the Las Vegas Taxi website to several different bookmarking sites under a few different aliases. I know what you’re thinking, “spam”, but it’s not really spam. Well I suppose some would consider it spam, but I try to make it less, well “spammy”. I submit all the sites I always submit, blogs I’ve read and sites I’ve read. And believe me when I say I’ve been to quite a few different sites. Once I post to these sites I ping the pages so that those pages get crawled right away. It’s something I’ve gotten quite good at in my years as an SEO. So far, that’s all I’ve done for my site as far as directories and bookmarking goes. Check back with me for more updates on all things Market Connection.
