First I would like to say that I’m no designer, I’m not the art type, couldn’t draw a picture if I had to. But I do know what I like and I’m sure I know what works and how to create a site that is easy to get around in. With said I’m going to say, there are some really ugly sites out there on the world wide web. Not only ugly but I don’t know what the owners were thinking when they created it.

I’ve been to sites that I couldn’t find a way to navigate through. Not only that but the particular site I’m thinking about was an SEO site wanting to generate business. So I’m not looking for blogs that I can get some good information from and while I’m at it a link back to my site. I find that blogs with commentluv are some of the best blogs to comment on. Not only because you get a back link but because I think people are trying hard write a good post.

Anyway back to ugly websites. For your website to make money or generate leads it has to offer easy navigation. Too many people are trying to get fancy and original only to end up with an ugly site that’s hard to navigate. Think about this when you build your site, the page that your readers will land on should be exactly about what they search for in the search engines. The information should be right in front of them when they land on your site.

Don’t put dark text on a dark background, don’t put a big button right in the middle of the page saying for SEO quote, I would like to know why I should do business with you before I asked for a quote. Don’t have a service company and then put tons of advertising on your home page. This just shows me that you’re not making any money from your business so you are trying to scrape a few pennies together with AdSense.

Some of you out there may think this is sort of black hat or at least a gray area. Let’s be straight up, if you can get back links to your customers site or to your site if you are a customer, and it’s coming from a site with very good content then who cares how it’s done. One technique that I use and that a lot of other people use is to create what’s called multi-sites. I give you an example of a multi site, WordPress.org is a multi site. You are able to create a blog there. And relevant good content onto that blog and then link out to other sites from that blog. And, because WordPress is huge and it carries a lot of weight the links coming from the sites on WordPress.org helping getting other sites ranked.

Now like with anything else there are techniques to make this a lot easier than going out in creating blogs auto bunch of multi-sites. First you have to find them, then you would have to get the content written, and then you have to maintain these sites. Over time I’ll reveal to you a simple way to make multiple multi-sites and have them working for you getting links to your site and making your site gain in the rankings of the search engines.

When I ask people whether they know what SEO is I commonly get an answer like “Sure I know what SEO is, it’s something to do with meta tags and putting lots of words in the page”.

I’ll stay with these two misconceptions for the time being.

The first is meta-tags, these tags were created to tell search engines about the website or the webpage to be exact. The idea was to add keywords that represented what the page was about. The problem with this is it was self regulated and not everybody is honest when adding keywords. by people found that by adding certain words they could make their site show up for searches other than what their page was about. Because of this medic keyword tags were abused and now they’re overlooked.

The scam still goes on the and there’s two reasons for people mentioning meta-tags or meta keyword tags. one is there stuck in the 90s and they haven’t done any research to change their mind. The second is there are still people out there trying to scam you and since meta-keyword tags sounds important they use it as a sales tool. There are however two tags that do make a difference. One of those tags is the most and important part of on page optimization, this tag is the title tag. The title tag should reflect what you want your page to show up for during the search.

if you were selling spray paint and you had a page that represented your whole life spray paint. It’s possible that you would want to have spray paint in your title. On the other hand if your page was about red spray paint you would want your page title to show that you have red spray paint.

The second is keyword density, it’s okay to have your keywords in your copyor at least synonyms of your keyword. But the thing you have to worry about is whether your copy is going to sell your product or service first and foremost. If you copy doesn’t sell your product that all the first place listings in Google are never going to help. So write your copy for your customer and to sell your product and don’t worry about keyword stuffing.

The next post I write will be about the meta-description tag which is another necessary tag that Google and other search engines look at.

We are a Las Vegas SEO company and we can do for you if you don’t have the time but it never hurts to know how it works. That way you will know if you’re getting what you pay for. Over the next few weeks I’m going to the trying to clear up some of the confusion I’ve run into dealing with my customers and to hopefully make SEO easier to understand.

I know that the small mom-and-pop shops out there can’t keep up with the Coca-Cola’s but they better start doing something when it comes to social media. These big companies are putting out big buttocks to pay people simply to keep their followers informed. This just goes to show you that if you got doing social marketing than your leaving some money on the table.

That’s why when you have us do your SEO we include a certain amount of social media in our campaigns. For instance, if you go to my http://www.facebook.com/MarketConnection page you’ll see this post. In fact if you go to any number of social sites that I’m a part of like twitter, linked in, Google Buzz just to name a few, you will see this post. Not only will you see this post but you will see the links to this post and if you know anything about SEO then you know links matter.

Here’s a video that I found for your entertainment and learning enjoyment.

No I’m not talking about another program that includes pdf’s to read. Some audio mp3′s that are usually just phone calls or webinars full of more filler than usable information. Normally after completing one of these “courses” you’re in no better shape then when you began.

That’s why you should check this program out

I’m sure the thought of trying to do your own online marketing is a bit intimidating. There are a few reasons why you should do it yourself though.

Expense

Experience in your niche

Amount of exposure

Security

Let’s go through them one by one. The first is expense and I say this while thinking of the old saying ” Give a man a fish, feed him for a day- Teach him to fish, feed him for a lifetime” It’s the same with marketing your business. If I do it for you, you have to pay me each month to keep it up. If you didn’t know that, sorry to break the bad news. Whether me or someone else you’ll be paying month after month.

Experience in your niche is needed so you can talk about your product or services with authority. If I write about what you do. I’m doing it with limited research or just guessing. Is this what you want your potential customers to see. It’s difficult enough to get people to pay attention to you. When they see some amateurish attempt at explaining your business they’ll simply click away and go to your competition.

ROI is measured by the amount you put out compared to the amount you bring in. In other words what it costs you to make a sale. If you saturate your market with content at a very low cost, you’re ROI will go up. If you don’t do it yourself you’ll have to pay quite a bit to get the word out and it won’t always be in the best places to capture your market’s attention.

Security is very important and knowing where everything is and how to get into all your properties and programs is very important. Sometime your interests are liable to be help captive if you pick the wrong person and don’t pay attention to security.

We can help you do it yourself with a step by step plan. This is not a learn it yourself and then do it. What we have is a step by step approach, we take you by the hand and tell you exactly what you have to do. You don’t have to learn a thing, if you can point and click, you can do this.

I read a lot about how the search engine algorithms change and what to watch out for but I never see anyone saying why they change. To many of you the answer might seem obvious. To some, “Google is out to get advertisers”. I never could understand this way of thinking. The search engines don’t owe you anything, they’re in business just like you. The bottom line is: Google wants their customers to come back. Pretty simple when you think about it, they only want to give good customer service.

Good Customer Service

When people search they want to get to the end of their search quickly, to end their search. To get there certain things have to happen, there must be a clear choice of results and those results must fill the need or the person searching. The only way the search engines know your site will fill the need of is by your reputation. You gain reputation and credibility though other sites linking to your own and the links within your own site. When those sites lose credibility, well so do you.

You saw this happen recently with a huge site, they have lots of money too. Google decided to make it harder to gain credibility. They filtered out some of the sites they thought were being used for gaining rank. What many don’t realize is that they hurt a credible company but these techniques could just as easily be used by a not so reputable company to gain rank. Anyway, when they filtered these sites the links lost power and down the site went in ranking.

Doesn’t Matter How Much You Spend

The search engines are not human moderated, they are machines so it doesn’t matter how much you spend in advertising with Adwords. Has nothing to do with the organic listings. You could be spending millions or it could be more. You’re treated just like everyone else. This is why the internet is such great place to do business. It’s a level playing field, anyone can be the big guy on the block.
